Chile has declared a state of emergency after devastating wildfires swept through the southern regions, claiming the lives of 18 people. Over 20,000 residents were evacuated from affected towns to safer locations as the fires continued to spread.
More than 20 active fires are being battled by firefighters working under extreme wind conditions and critically dry weather, which is making containment very difficult. Emergency agencies are coordinating across multiple levels to provide mass sheltering, protect infrastructure, and ensure the safety of residents.
Authorities are also planning to maintain economic continuity and requested international assistance to strengthen firefighting efforts. Aerial firefighting operations are being carried out alongside ground crews to control the flames. The focus remains on rapid containment, protecting lives, and supporting communities affected by the fires.
