Mattel Revives Masters of the Universe Toys Ahead of Film Launch

Post by : Meena Hassan

Mattel is set to reintroduce the cherished Masters of the Universe action figures, launching a new toy line linked to its anticipated live-action movie. This thrilling development follows the success of Mattel's 2023 blockbuster, Barbie, which accumulated over $1.4 billion globally and clinched an Academy Award.

The toy giant aims to rejuvenate its iconic franchises, with a plethora of films currently underway. Riding the wave of excitement sparked by the teaser for the Masters of the Universe film— boasting over 30 million views—it’s an opportune moment for Mattel to bring back this nostalgic brand.

Originally launched in the 1980s, the Masters of the Universe toy series has remained a favorite among fans. Mattel’s chief global brand officer noted that the relaunch timing is strategic, focusing on honoring the brand’s legacy.

Directed by Oscar nominee Travis Knight, the upcoming film features Nicholas Galitzine as the valiant He-Man. The star-studded cast includes Jared Leto as the villain Skeletor, along with Idris Elba, Alison Brie, and Camila Mendes.

The new action figures, showcasing beloved characters like He-Man, Skeletor, and Evil-Lyn, will be sold worldwide starting in April. Priced around $25, these collectibles are set to hit the shelves about two months prior to the film’s release, allowing fans to rekindle the magic of this beloved universe.
