Spain Train Collision 21 Dead 100 Injured Adamuz Córdoba High-Speed Crash

A major rail disaster has been reported in southern Spain after a high-speed Iryo train travelling from Málaga to Madrid derailed near Adamuz in Córdoba province, following a collision with a Renfe Madrid–Huelva service.

Authorities said the crash has left 21 people dead and more than 100 injured, with around 30 passengers in critical condition. The injured have been rushed to 15 hospitals, as emergency medical teams continue working under intense pressure.

Large-Scale Rescue Operation

Emergency services have launched a complex rescue operation at the crash site. Multiple ambulances and intensive care units have been deployed, and regional Andalusian authorities are coordinating with national response teams.

Several carriages reportedly overturned, forcing rescue teams to carry out difficult evacuations. Passenger evacuation is still ongoing.

Track Recently Upgraded

The derailment occurred on a straight section of track, which had reportedly been recently upgraded in May 2025, raising questions over infrastructure safety.

Rail Services Suspended

Following the crash, rail services have been suspended on key routes including:

  • Madrid–Sevilla

  • Madrid–Málaga

  • Madrid–Huelva

Witnesses Describe “Earthquake-like” Impact

Witnesses described the impact as sudden and violent, comparing it to an “earthquake-like” shock. Several passengers were thrown inside the train as the carriages overturned.

Investigation Underway

An investigation has been launched, with early attention focused on possible signaling issues or track failure.
