Post by : Bianca Haleem

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un took part in lively New Year celebrations in Pyongyang, featuring stunning fireworks, patriotic melodies, cultural dances, and a taekwondo performance, as reported by official state media on Thursday.

In his address for the New Year, Kim acknowledged the North Korean populace for their "remarkable successes and incredible changes" accomplished throughout the year 2025. He stressed the significance of national unity as preparations begin for the forthcoming 9th Congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, set to take place in early 2026. This congress will be vital in determining the nation’s strategic trajectory for the next five years, concentrating on crucial domains such as nuclear development and economic planning.

Further extending his message, Kim addressed North Korean troops currently involved in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine alongside Russian forces. He commended these soldiers as the "greatest pride and strength, a strong pillar" of the nation, expressing hopes for their safe return.

The impending 9th Workers’ Party Congress is expected to outline extensive policies and initiatives aimed at shaping North Korea’s future across various sectors, highlighting the leadership’s priorities in terms of national development and military progress.

Kim Jong Un’s New Year festivities and speech reiterate his call for solidarity among the North Korean populace as the country embarks on a crucial year filled with political, military, and economic aspirations.
