Amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions, Pakistan has deployed a significant military presence to Saudi Arabia. This includes thousands of personnel, advanced fighter jets, and sophisticated air defense systems, all under a confidential defence agreement.
Sources indicate that approximately 8,000 military personnel have been sent along with around 16 aircraft, primarily JF-17 fighter jets developed in partnership with China. Additionally, the deployment includes two squadrons of drones and a Chinese-made HQ-9 air defense system.
Operated by Pakistani personnel, these military assets are financed by Saudi Arabia. Officials described this move as a capable combat force designed to back Saudi Arabia against potential threats.
While the primary focus of this troop deployment is advisory and training roles during ongoing tensions, Pakistan has previously stationed military forces in the kingdom. This latest move significantly expands Pakistan's military presence amid the rising instability in the region.
The discreet defense arrangement allows for the potential deployment of up to 80,000 Pakistani troops if needed, though reports also hint at the possible inclusion of Pakistani warships, which remains unverified.
This development comes as Pakistan plays a crucial mediating role in the Iran conflict, having facilitated previous dialogues between the U.S. and Iran and aiding efforts for a temporary ceasefire in the area.
The scale of this military deployment, coupled with Pakistan's dual role as a mediator and military ally, has garnered international attention. As of now, neither Pakistan nor Saudi Arabia has publicly commented on the situation.
