US Leads Libya Talks To Boost Unity, Security And Economy

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The United States led a Libya Senior Officials Meeting during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Senior officials from the UAE, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the UK joined the meeting to discuss ways to strengthen unity, security, and economic foundations in Libya.

UN Briefing on Libya Developments

Hanna Tetteh, the UN Special Representative for Libya and Head of UNSMIL, updated participants on the latest political developments in Libya. She highlighted efforts to follow the UNSMIL political roadmap and encouraged inclusive dialogue among Libyan parties to support peace and stability.

International Support for Unity and Security

At the conclusion of the meeting, the United States reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to Libya’s progress. Officials welcomed Tetteh’s briefing and praised her efforts to advance the political process. They also stressed the importance of east-west security integration to strengthen Libya’s contribution to regional peace and stability.

Economic Foundations for Prosperity

The participants agreed that strong economic foundations are crucial for a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Libya. They highlighted the need to support key institutions such as the National Oil Corporation, the Central Bank of Libya, and the Audit Bureau. Strengthening these institutions would help maintain economic stability and create a better business environment in the country.

Political Unity and Sovereignty

The meeting emphasized that unifying political institutions is essential for national prosperity. A united government can better defend Libya’s sovereignty, protect its borders, and prevent threats like illegal migration and weapons trafficking. Officials agreed that political and economic stability go hand in hand in achieving peace and security.

Coordinated International Efforts

Participants stressed the importance of working together to promote investment opportunities, safeguard Libya’s resources, and support economic stability. They noted that coordinated international efforts can drive national unity, boost development, and contribute to long-term peace and prosperity for all Libyans.
