A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited the UAE's field hospital situated in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip. Their objective was to evaluate the medical and humanitarian services being offered to Palestinians amid the ongoing crisis.
The WHO team was comprised of Luca Pigozzi, Acting Head of WHO's Sub-Office in Gaza, Roy Cosico, Technical Officer for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) at WHO headquarters, and Heba Al Najjar, WHO Emergency Medical Teams Coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Upon arrival, the delegation was greeted by Ali Al Shehhi, the Head of the UAE Mission in Gaza under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 and Director of the UAE field hospital. Al Shehhi provided an overview of the hospital’s healthcare offerings, treatment initiatives, and ongoing support measures aimed at bolstering Gaza's healthcare infrastructure.
He explained the medical care being supplied to injured individuals and general patients throughout Gaza, alongside the assistance and medical provisions dispatched to local hospitals through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. This operation is part of the UAE’s broader humanitarian mission to support Palestinians adversely affected by the conflict.
The delegation toured various sections of the UAE field hospital, assessing treatment facilities, surgical units, and specialized healthcare services. They observed the efforts of the UAE medical team, continually providing vital health services and emergency care to those in dire need.
WHO officials commended the UAE for its humanitarian initiatives, highlighting the crucial role of the field hospital in supplying life-saving medical treatment to patients in Gaza. They acknowledged the dedication of medical personnel and the high-quality standards upheld, despite facing challenging circumstances.
Ali Al Shehhi reiterated the UAE's unwavering commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector in Gaza, ensuring that humanitarian assistance is delivered to those in need most. He emphasized the UAE's focus on mitigating the hardships faced by the Palestinian people through its medical and relief efforts.
Since its launch, the UAE field hospital in Rafah and the Emirates Medical Centre for Primary Care in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis, have treated nearly 97,000 patients across the Gaza Strip, exemplifying the UAE's ongoing commitment to humanitarian assistance and healthcare support during this crisis.
