An intense 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the Oregon coast in the United States on Thursday evening. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), which could lead to it being felt in surrounding areas.
So far, authorities have reported no injuries or significant damage. Emergency teams remain vigilant to ensure the safety of the public. Residents in coastal regions are urged to stay attentive and heed any advice from local officials.
According to the National Tsunami Warning Center, a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there were no tsunami alerts issued following the earthquake.
This offshore zone, located near the Oregon–California boundary, lies along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, an area known for its tectonic activity and frequent earthquakes. Though many of these seismic events occur underwater, stronger ones, like the recent quake, can be felt across the Pacific Northwest coast.
Researchers are actively studying this earthquake and monitoring seismic activity in the area to enhance understanding and readiness for future seismic occurrences.
