The schedule for the 8th Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Academy International Blitz Chess Tournament has been confirmed for April 25, 2026, at the Academy's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. This event is organized in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Chess Club & Mind Games.
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, and aligned with the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this tournament emphasizes women's engagement in intellectual sports and aims to elevate chess within women's athletics.
The matches will adhere to the Swiss system, comprising nine rounds of dynamic play anticipated to draw participants from varied countries and age ranges, thus fostering a rich competitive setting. The overall prize pool reaches AED 40,000, inclusive of special recognitions for standout participants across various categories.
Abdullah Al Tamimi, a representative of the academy, stated that the tournament embodies the academy's mission to bolster chess and enhance its visibility in women's sports. He highlighted the importance of such events in establishing the UAE and Abu Dhabi as premier locations for global sports competitions.
Moreover, he underscored that these tournaments offer players invaluable opportunities for skill enhancement, international exposure, and high-level competition. This initiative further aligns with broader objectives of empowering women and encouraging family involvement, as well as integrating People of Determination.
Al Tamimi emphasized the essential role of strong collaborations with supporting organizations in the success of these events, which help elevate organizational standards and expand the academy’s outreach in its programs.
This tournament forms part of the ongoing mission to develop intellectual sports and motivate greater female participation in competitive chess, thereby contributing to the advancement of sports excellence in the UAE.
