The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has successfully secured LEED Platinum Certification under the LEED v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) rating system, representing the pinnacle of recognition from the globally acknowledged Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme.
This accomplishment signifies a significant advancement in ADPHC's sustainability initiatives and showcases its dedication to fostering healthier, energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable environments for staff and visitors alike. The centre's commitment to sustainable practices serves as a robust model for other institutions across the Middle East.
In the pursuit of certification, ADPHC executed an extensive energy audit to evaluate building performance and pinpoint areas for enhancement. A range of sustainable measures were adopted, including upgrades to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, improvements in lighting efficiency, enhanced waste management techniques, utilization of certified sustainable products, green cleaning methodologies, and elevated indoor air quality standards.
These strategic initiatives yielded notable outcomes. Energy usage per individual dropped by 36%, water consumption fell by 42%, and recycling rates reached an impressive 44%. These efforts culminated in the prestigious LEED Platinum certification.
His Excellency Dr Rashed Alsuwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, stated that this accolade underscores the organization’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding both environmental and public health. He highlighted the direct correlation between environmental conditions and community wellness and stressed the role of leading by example through sustainable initiatives.
Dr Alsuwaidi also remarked that ADPHC’s sustainability initiatives align with the UAE's Net Zero objectives and Abu Dhabi's enduring aim for a sustainable and resilient future.
The centre has progressively advanced its sustainability strategy in recent years. In 2023, ADPHC released its inaugural Sustainability Report, detailing quantifiable progress in areas such as carbon reduction, waste management, and prudent resource usage.
The LEED Platinum certification embodies ADPHC’s conviction that environmental sustainability and public health are intricately intertwined, with environmentally responsible practices being pivotal in enhancing community health and wellbeing.
