Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Perishes in Plane Crash

Post by : Meena Hassan

Early Wednesday, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tragically perished in a plane crash near Baramati airport. The chartered Bombardier Learjet 45 was making an emergency landing attempt when the incident occurred. Alongside Ajit Pawar, four others—including the pilots and two security personnel—lost their lives in the devastating crash.

The Learjet, registered as VT-SSK and operated by VSR Ventures Pvt. Ltd., took off from Mumbai around 8:10 AM. The aircraft's first landing approach at Baramati failed due to poor visibility. A second attempt was initiated shortly thereafter, but the plane vanished from radar near runway 11 at approximately 8:45 AM before crashing in flames just short of the runway.

Emergency services promptly arrived at the crash location, encountering wreckage, billowing smoke, and fire. Unfortunately, there were no survivors. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has commenced an investigation into the crash's causes, with poor visibility suspected as a factor.

At 66 years old, Ajit Pawar was en route to Baramati for public meetings related to the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections, following a cabinet meeting in Mumbai the previous day. His family members, including his wife and son, hurried to Baramati following the news.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra. The Prime Minister offered condolences, reflecting on Ajit Pawar's commitment as a leader and his strong ties with the community. State leaders have expressed their grief and recognized his unwavering dedication to Maharashtra's development.
