Ajman DED Enforces Approval for Price Changes on Essential Goods

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Ajman has rolled out a new directive mandating that all businesses secure prior approval before altering the prices of essential goods within the emirate.

This directive encompasses all economic entities, including suppliers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers. Companies must notify the Ministry of Economy and Tourism through authorized electronic channels before any price modifications take effect. Notifications require substantial economic justification.

This initiative is part of Ajman’s dedicated efforts to uphold market stability, safeguard consumer rights, and ensure pricing transparency. The authorities strive to verify that any price adjustments are both justified and reasonable, anchored in sound economic reasoning.

The regulation aligns with existing UAE legislation and is intended to meticulously monitor market dynamics. Furthermore, it aims to enhance collaboration between the private and public sectors for a more balanced and sustainable economic climate.

This ruling applies to a defined list of 29 essential goods crucial to daily consumer needs. All businesses engaged with these products must fully adhere to the new stipulations.

Noncompliance with this directive may result in penalties, as officials continue to exert stringent oversight over pricing operations within the local market.
