Al Faghi Street Transformed into Sheikh Zayed Farm Street

Post by : Shakul

In a significant move, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has renamed Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej to Sheikh Zayed Farm Street, acknowledging the site’s vital role in the UAE's history.

This change, made in collaboration with the Dubai Road Naming Committee, reflects an ongoing commitment within the UAE to honor and preserve landmarks tied to the nation's identity. Sheikh Zayed Farm has now been designated as the third official union site in the UAE, joining Union House and Arqoob Al Sedira.

The farm is deeply significant as it was the venue for crucial meetings conducted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan during the initial formation phase of the UAE. These conversations were instrumental in crafting the agreement that defined the Union in 1971.

Official reports indicate that Sheikh Zayed occupied the farm for nearly two weeks in March 1971 while engaging with the rulers of the emirates. These discussions led to the signing of the Union Agreement and the Constitution later that same year.

Dubai officials explain that this renaming initiative is a part of a larger strategy aimed at linking roads and urban spaces to critical cultural and historical sites. They believe such initiatives can cultivate national pride and educate younger citizens about the UAE’s historical significance.

Currently, Sheikh Zayed Farm stands as a key heritage site in the UAE, symbolizing unity, authenticity, and visionary leadership, which were pivotal in transforming the UAE into a global exemplar of progress and stability.

The new designation is set to enhance awareness regarding the preservation of historical sites within the Emirates and deepen the public’s understanding of the nation’s founding narrative.
