The Urology Section at Al Wakra Hospital (AWH), part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), has received renewed recognition as a Center of Excellence for Kidney Stone Management (COEKSM) from the USA-based Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).
The accreditation is valid from June 2026 through 2029, confirming the Urology Section’s continued recognition for its work in kidney stone management.
Alongside the center’s re-accreditation, eight urologists from Al Wakra Hospital have been accredited by the SRC as Surgeons of Excellence.
The latest recognition builds on the Urology Section’s previous SRC accreditation, which it first received in 2019 for its dedicated clinical care and management of kidney stones.
The Urology Section provides standardized treatment options for patients with urinary stones. Its services also include a dedicated Stone Clinic, which works with the Dietetic and Nephrology departments when required.
This approach supports the hospital’s structured management of urinary stone cases through its specialized urology services.
Dr. Omar Mohd Al Qahtani, CEO and Medical Director of Al Wakra Hospital, said the renewed accreditation reflects the standard of care provided by the hospital’s Urology team. “This re-accreditation is a testament to the exceptional standard of care our Urology team consistently delivers to patients across Qatar. Achieving this recognition again reflects not only our clinical excellence but also our commitment to continuous improvement.”
Dr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Head of Urology at HMC, said the achievement further strengthens HMC’s standing in specialized urological care. “This achievement reinforces HMC's position as a leader in specialized urological care in the region. The re-accreditation, along with the recognition of eight of our urologists as Surgeons of Excellence, demonstrates the expertise and commitment to quality that defines our Urology teams across HMC.”
The renewed Center of Excellence for Kidney Stone Management status covers the period from June 2026 to 2029. Together with the individual recognition of eight AWH urologists as Surgeons of Excellence, the accreditation highlights the Urology Section’s continued focus on specialized kidney stone management and quality of care.
