Post by : Bianca Haleem

Andres Iniesta, the esteemed former midfielder from Barcelona and Spain, has embarked on an exciting new journey as he steps into the role of head coach for UAE First Division League team Gulf United FC.

This marks the inaugural coaching position for the 2010 FIFA World Cup victor, who officially retired from professional play in 2024. Gulf United made the announcement on Monday, emphasizing that Iniesta will be at the helm of the team while he continues his coaching education.

The 42-year-old recently attained his UEFA A Licence and is diligently pursuing his Pro Licence. According to the club's statement, Iniesta is excited to begin his coaching journey as he transitions from player to coach.

Iniesta is held in high esteem as one of the finest midfielders in the history of football. He played a pivotal role during the successful stints of both the Spanish national team and FC Barcelona in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His unforgettable moment came during the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, where he netted the decisive goal against the Netherlands, enabling Spain to secure their maiden title.

Throughout his illustrious career, Iniesta secured a wealth of prestigious titles, including numerous UEFA Champions League and La Liga trophies with Barcelona. Before his retirement, he played for Emirates Club in the UAE.

Reflecting on his new role, Iniesta expressed that Gulf United is the ideal setting for him to kickstart his coaching career. He shared his sentiment for the game, stating that football has granted him so much, and now he aims to nurture young talent and assist them in fulfilling their potential.

With this appointment, Iniesta is set to launch his coaching career, aiming to build on the success he achieved on the field.
