Arab League Calls Attention to Israeli Occupation and Settlement Actions

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Arab League’s General Secretariat has issued a strong warning regarding the implications of Israeli occupation strategies and plans for annexation, citing significant threats to regional security and breaches of international laws, which hinder peaceful solutions to the Palestinian crisis.

In a statement marking the 59th anniversary of the 1967 June War, the League noted the increasing intensity of Israeli military actions in Gaza. It also pointed out the persistent expansion of settlements and ongoing annexation strategies in the West Bank, along with military actions affecting Lebanese and Syrian areas.

The Arab League emphasized that true peace, security, and stability in the Middle East can only be attained through the cessation of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and other Arab areas captured in 1967. It reiterated its support for the formation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with the two-state solution, international legitimacy, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The organization urged the global community to take more robust actions to increase pressure on Israel, demanding an end to military operations and what are deemed illegal activities, including settlement expansions in the occupied domains.

According to the Arab League, halting the occupation and progressing towards a political resolution is critical to fostering peace and stability throughout the region.
