Cultural Celebrations in Ashgabat This Weekend

This weekend, Ashgabat will be alive with cultural energy as Turkmenistan honors Constitution Day and State Flag Day through an exciting lineup of performances and exhibitions across the capital. Various museums, theatres, and cultural institutions are showcasing special programs to celebrate this significant national occasion.

In the lead-up to these festivities, Ashgabat is hosting a series of scientific conferences, thematic exhibitions, and cultural gatherings designed to spotlight the nation’s unique identity, heritage, and patriotic spirit, fostering collaboration among artists, students, scholars, and local residents from diverse regions.

Key theatres in the city will feature special performances throughout the weekend, including the Main Academic Drama Theatre named after S. Turkmenbashi the Great, which will showcase several plays such as “Çynymy aýtsam,” “Giýewleriň bäsleşigi,” and “Gelin gelýä,” all scheduled for the evening.

The festive agenda will also include the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theatre, performing “Super gaýyn ene” alongside a special concert titled “Baýdagyň belentdir dünýäň öňünde,” which celebrates the significance of the national flag and Turkmen traditions through music.

Additionally, audiences can enjoy productions such as “Sabyr Ataýewa” and “Yşk mekany Hindistan” at the Alp Arslan National Drama Theatre. The Mollanepes Student Theatre will also participate with performances like “Arşın mal alan” and “Saňa ýalan maňa çyn,” allowing budding young performers to engage in the celebrations.

The Pushkin State Russian Drama Theatre has put together a vibrant program for families, including kid-friendly shows like “Thumbelina” and “The Kidnapping of Cheburashka,” in addition to evening performances such as “Chekhov’s Vaudevilles” and “Family Secret.”

The Turkmen State Puppet Theatre will cater to families with productions like “Baky rowaýatlar,” “Jüýteniň toýy,” “Bir towşanjyk bar ekeni,” and “Aladdin,” scheduled throughout the weekend festivities.

Officials assert that the diverse cultural programs underscore Turkmenistan’s dedication to upholding national traditions while fostering artistic expression and community engagement. These events aim to draw both local attendees and international visitors currently in Ashgabat.

The observance of Constitution Day and State Flag Day remains deeply symbolic in Turkmenistan, with these cultural performances serving as a vital expression of national pride and unity throughout the country.
