Marilyn Monroe's 100th Birthday Celebrations Kick Off in Hollywood

Post by : Shakul

Hollywood is embarking on a journey to celebrate the legendary Marilyn Monroe as her 100th birthday approaches. Across Los Angeles, a variety of events are unfolding to honor the actress and model whose impact on cinema, fashion, and culture endures long after her passing.

The festivities commenced in Hollywood, Monroe's birthplace, as fans gathered at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Enthusiasts organized commemorations featuring a symbolic birthday cake and a tribute of one hundred roses placed near Monroe's iconic handprints. This tribute highlights her lasting legacy from Hollywood's Golden Age and her status as a celebrated figure in the entertainment realm.

As part of the centennial events, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures unveiled a significant exhibition titled Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon. This exhibit presents hundreds of original artifacts associated with Monroe's extraordinary career, granting attendees an intimate glimpse into the life of the woman who transformed from an underprivileged background into a worldwide sensation.

A major highlight is Monroe's famous pink gown from the classic film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This dress, worn in her iconic rendition of the song Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, is among the most memorable costumes in cinematic history, taking center stage in the exhibition.

Throughout the month of June, special screenings of Monroe's iconic films will reintroduce her brilliance to new audiences. Viewers will have the chance to revisit celebrated films such as The Asphalt Jungle, Niagara, The Seven Year Itch, Some Like It Hot, and The Misfits, all of which established Monroe as a leading figure of 20th-century cinema.

The series of events will culminate in a grand auction featuring nearly 200 items of Monroe memorabilia. Collectors worldwide are expected to vie for rare pieces, encompassing personal photographs, handwritten notes, beauty items, scripts, and documents from her unfinished project, Something’s Got to Give. This auction underscores the persistent interest in Monroe's extraordinary life and enduring legacy.

Born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926, Monroe evolved from a factory worker and model into an icon that captivated the globe. Despite her glamorous public persona, she challenged the industry's power dynamics, established her own production company, and pushed for respect and opportunities for women within Hollywood. A century after her arrival, her influence continues to inspire filmmakers, artists, and fans worldwide.
