Honoring Excellence at the 28th Sharjah Quran and Sunnah Award

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the ceremony recognizing the winners of the 28th Holy Quran and Sunnah Award took place on Thursday morning. Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Office, attended the event held at the Al Qasimia University Theatre, alongside scholars, officials, family members, and supporters of the award.

The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran. Sultan Matar bin Dalmouk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Noble Quran and Sunnah Establishment, welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude towards Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi for honoring the winners and supporting the initiative.

Bin Dalmouk emphasized the vital collaboration among families, educational institutions, and teachers, which he credited for the ongoing success of the award’s programs. He noted that the award serves as a respected platform for competition and instilling authentic Islamic values in the younger generation. This includes a commitment to mastering the Holy Quran and following the guidance of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This year's event saw remarkable participation, with 1,103 competitors. From those, 482 advanced to the final rounds, resulting in 131 winners from various categories and an additional 12 from supplementary activities. A new category for Quranic readings was introduced, focusing on Asim’s recitation along with the Al-Jazariyyah text.

The audience enjoyed a visual presentation commemorating the Establishment’s journey and its evolution as a leading initiative in Quranic services. The presentation demonstrated the award’s role in nurturing youth through structured educational techniques that emphasize memorization, comprehension, and proper recitation. Selected recitations from winners added to the event’s heartfelt atmosphere.

Dr Salem Mohammed Al Duwabi, Head of the Judging Committee for the Prophetic Sunnah category, lauded the Establishment’s enduring efforts in conducting the award. He highlighted the competition's role in motivating participants to memorize the Holy Quran and noble Hadiths, helping shape a future generation exemplifying knowledge and integrity. Acknowledging the essential support from parents and guardians, he recognized their influence on these accomplishments.

Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi then honored the male and female winners of this edition, distributing shields and certificates. Awards were presented across several categories, including complete memorization and varying levels for residents and citizens, as well as a category for senior citizens and “mother memoriser” for women.

In the Prophetic Sunnah competition, winners in multiple branches were acknowledged, including selections focusing on Hadith collections. The ceremony also honored distinguished study circles and centers throughout Sharjah.

In closing, Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi awarded commemorative shields to the sponsors and supporters of the award, expressing appreciation for their enduring contributions. He received a memento from the Establishment as a token of gratitude for his attendance and personal recognition of the winners.

This event reflects Sharjah’s dedication to promoting the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah, inspiring generations to uphold Islamic ideals through education and excellence.
