Celebration of 52 Graduates at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the graduation ceremony for the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) on Sunday morning. This event marked the graduation of the Class of 2026 at the university theatre.

A total of 52 students from diverse performing arts programmes celebrated this achievement, further solidifying Sharjah’s dedication to cultivating arts education and cultural enrichment.

Warm Reception for the Ruler of Sharjah

Upon his arrival, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi was graciously welcomed by Her Highness Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the University of the Art Sharjah, alongside other distinguished guests.

Musical Performance Kicks Off Ceremony

The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem, followed by a lively musical performance by the graduates that demonstrated their artistic abilities. Instruments such as the piano, flute, and violin highlighted the rigorous training the students underwent.

Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi Commends Graduates

During her address, Sheikha Hoor expressed her pride in the graduates' accomplishments, noting they are now ready to embark on their professional journeys after diligent efforts at the academy.

She emphasized that this graduation coincides with a pivotal time for arts education in Sharjah, marking the integration of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy with the College of Arts and Design, enhancing collaboration in arts learning.

She acknowledged His Highness the Ruler's vision in emphasizing investment in education and the arts, which has positioned Sharjah as a prominent hub for creative talents.

She also expressed gratitude to the university staff for their unwavering dedication in supporting students.

Spotlight on Academy Achievements

Dr. Peter Barlow, Director of SPAA, shared insights on the academy’s rapid rise in prominence since its inception.

He credited the institution's success to the Ruler of Sharjah's vision, combining academic rigor with practical experience. Key achievements include:

  • Establishing unique performing arts programmes within the UAE.

  • Graduating the inaugural Master of Fine Arts cohort.

  • Launching the College of Music.

  • Offering programmes in Arabic and Western classical music.

  • Hosting international cultural events enhancing Sharjah's reputation.

Dr. Barlow stated that the establishment of the University of the Art Sharjah marks a significant advancement in specialized arts education by integrating various creative fields.

Inspirational Guest: Actress Yasmina El Abd

Guest of honour, Actress Yasmina El Abd, commended the graduates for their achievements and emphasized the importance of arts education in building confidence and communication.

She urged students to remain passionate about their pursuits, highlighting the role of artists in telling stories and fostering social impact.

Reflections from Graduates

Graduates shared heartfelt reflections on their education and journeys, expressing gratitude for the support they received along the way.

Attending a diverse academy enriched their experiences, reinforcing their belief in the unifying power of art.

Majed Al Muaini from the University of the Art Sharjah Alumni Association reflected on years of creativity and learning leading up to this momentous day.

He impressed upon students the importance of persistence in the arts and urged continuous exploration of meaningful projects.

Al Muaini expressed gratitude towards the Ruler of Sharjah for supporting cultural initiatives and acknowledged the contributions of faculty and families.

Graduation Certificates Awarded

At the close of the ceremony, Sheikha Hoor presented certificates to graduates, congratulating them on their successes.

Distribution of Graduates' Disciplines

The Class of 2026 comprised of 52 graduates across varying fields:

  • 4 from the Master of Fine Arts in Theatre and Live Performance.

  • 12 from the Bachelor of Arts in Acting.

  • 9 from the Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre.

  • 15 from the Bachelor of Arts in Production Arts.

  • 12 from the Trinity Diploma Level 6 in Professional Dance.

This ceremony underscored Sharjah's ongoing devotion to nurturing artistic talent and reinforcing its standing as a vital center for arts and culture.
