Sharjah Forum Celebrates Four Jordanian Cultural Icons

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Sharjah Cultural Forum continues its vital journey through Arab cities, enhancing its reputation as a significant event dedicated to honouring Arab intellectuals and artists in their native regions.

Under the patronage of Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the forum recently took place in Amman, where the 26th edition paid tribute to four notable figures from Jordan.

The individuals recognized included translator Dr Mohammed Asfour, critic Dr Nayef Al Ajlouni, heritage researcher Dr Ahmad Sharif Al Zoubi, and poet Mariam Al Saifi. This initiative signifies Sharjah's commitment to acknowledging literary talents who have made valuable contributions to contemporary Arab culture.

This event marks the sixth occasion the forum has been held in Jordan, further enhancing the cultural collaboration between the UAE and Jordan. Hosted at the National Library Department in Amman, it attracted a diverse gathering of cultural figures, scholars, and officials.

Notable attendees included Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, along with representatives from the Jordanian Ministry of Culture. The event underscored the strong cultural ties and mutual values shared by both nations.

In his speech, Al Owais extended greetings from the Ruler of Sharjah, highlighting the forum's increasing role as a platform for honoring creativity and nurturing knowledge as means of human progress. He described the event as a testament to the fruitful collaboration between cultural institutions from the two nations.

Dr Nayef Al Ajlouni, representing the honorees, expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, stating that the forum transcends individual honor to facilitate wider intellectual and cultural dialogue throughout the Arab world.

The ceremony culminated in the distribution of certificates of appreciation, validated by the Ruler of Sharjah, acknowledging the honorees' contributions to literature and intellect.

An accompanying exhibition presented publications from the Sharjah Department of Culture, featuring cultural magazines and literary works, showcasing the emirate's commitment to enriching the Arab cultural scene.
