China Flood Death Toll Rises to 159 in Guangxi

China Floods Leave 159 Dead

The death toll from devastating floods that struck southern China last month has risen to 159, according to official media reports. Authorities also said that 10 people remain missing following the disaster in Guangxi and other affected areas.

Typhoon Maysak Brings Heavy Rain

The floods were linked to Typhoon Maysak, which brought torrential rainfall and severe flooding to parts of southern China in July. Guangxi was among the worst-hit regions, with earlier reports saying that 39 people had died in the province.

More Than 1.65 Million People Affected

Chinese state media reported that the disaster affected more than 1.65 million people in Nanning and Guigang. Both cities have now entered the recovery and reconstruction phase following the widespread flooding and destruction.

Reservoir Damage Worsened the Disaster

Damage to the Liulan Reservoir Dam caused a large flow of muddy water downstream. According to earlier reports from Xinhua, the incident alone killed at least 26 people and left seven others missing, adding to the scale of the disaster.

Recovery Work Continues in Guangxi

Authorities are now focusing on rebuilding damaged infrastructure and helping communities recover. The latest death toll was announced several weeks after the flooding, although officials did not provide detailed reasons for the significant increase in the reported number of deaths.
