Texas Man Detained After Cybertruck Test Ends in Grapevine Lake Incident

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A man from Texas has been taken into custody following an incident where he reportedly drove a Tesla Cybertruck into Grapevine Lake in an attempt to test its “Wade Mode” feature.

The event occurred near Katie’s Woods Boat Ramp, prompting police to respond to reports of a vehicle partially submerged. Upon arrival, officers located the Cybertruck stranded close to the shore after its attempt to return to land was unsuccessful.

According to officials from the Grapevine Police Department, the driver, identified as Jimmy Jack McDaniel, admitted that he had deliberately driven the Cybertruck into the lake to examine its capability to operate in water.

Tesla's Wade Mode aims to optimize the Cybertruck for navigating through shallow water, mud, and difficult terrain by modifying ride height and other vehicle systems. However, it is restricted to specific depth conditions.

Authorities indicated that the vehicle became incapacitated while submerged, leading to water entering the truck and requiring emergency intervention. Firefighters from the Grapevine Fire Department assisted in retrieving the vehicle, which was later pulled from the lake by a tow truck.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.

McDaniel now faces several charges, including operating a vehicle in a restricted park area, failing to have a valid boat registration, and violating aquatic safety regulations.

This incident underscores the potential dangers of improperly using off-road vehicle features like the Wade Mode, which is designed for shallow and controlled water scenarios.
