A tragic update has surfaced regarding the catastrophic fire at Flourish Stay B&B in Delhi, which resulted in 21 fatalities.
Local witness Mohammed Wasim reported that Lavkesh Bajaj, the guest house owner, arrived at the location during the fire but departed shortly thereafter.
Wasim, aged 37, reached the site around 8:30 am, observing significant smoke billowing from the building. He contacted Bajaj at 8:52 am to warn him about the fire's gravity.
"I informed him the inferno was substantial. He said he was already aware. I urged him to get to the scene and then hung up," Wasim noted.
According to Wasim, Bajaj appeared on-site roughly ten minutes later, donned in a white T-shirt. Although rescue efforts were active, he didn't engage in conversation with Bajaj.
"I was focused on assisting with rescue operations but did spot him there. He lingered for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before departing," he elaborated.
Local residents and police reported that Bajaj also operates two additional bed-and-breakfast establishments nearby, frequently visiting the restaurant associated with Flourish Stay B&B.
Investigators discovered a discrepancy in ownership records; although Bajaj is listed as the owner, the establishment's licence names Jay Mishra as the proprietor, who oversaw the guest house.
Current reports indicate that Jay Mishra, designated as an accountant in court documents, is currently on the run. Authorities are also searching for Rakesh, another individual believed to have managed the B&B.
In the meantime, a Delhi court has ordered a four-day police custody for Lavkesh Bajaj, stating that an inquiry was essential given the severe nature of the charges and the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
The inquiry continues, as officials delve deeper into the factors contributing to one of Delhi's most devastating fire disasters in recent memory.
