Massive Demonstration in Freezing Minneapolis Against ICE Operations

Massive Demonstration in Freezing Minneapolis Against ICE Operations

Post by : Meena Hassan

In Minneapolis, amid dangerously frigid temperatures, thousands took to the streets on Friday, voicing their demands against President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration.

With temperatures plummeting to nearly minus 20°F (minus 29°C), the participants continued to grow in number, chanting powerful slogans and carrying signs that insisted on an end to immigration enforcement in their neighborhoods.

This event was part of a larger initiative dubbed “ICE OUT!”, aimed at showcasing public opposition to the escalated presence of immigration authorities. Besides the march, the protest served as a call for a general strike, urging individuals to abstain from work as a show of solidarity and demand for change.

Although organizers stated that as many as 50,000 people attended, this figure could not be verified by official sources, and Minneapolis police did not provide an estimate when requested.

As the march progressed through harsh winter conditions, many participants transitioned to a gathering at the Target Center, a prominent sports arena in downtown Minneapolis. Reports indicated that the venue, with a capacity of about 20,000, was over half full as attendees listened to speeches and reiterated calls for reform.

This protest underscores rising tensions in Minneapolis, as community members and advocates express concerns over the implications of immigration enforcement on families, workers, and local neighborhoods. Despite the cold, the turnout exemplified a fervent public sentiment and a clear demand for an end to what they regarded as aggressive enforcement actions.
