The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), in partnership with SEHA Clinics, has unveiled plans to expand the operating hours of multiple primary healthcare centres, enabling them to offer continuous services around the clock.
This initiative is designed to provide timely, integrated, and patient-centered care, bolstering Abu Dhabi’s healthcare framework to effectively respond to increasing community demands.
Focus on Urgent Care Accessibility
As part of this expansion, select centres will also roll out urgent care services, facilitating quicker responses for non-emergency medical needs. This development is anticipated to alleviate pressure on hospital emergency departments while enhancing patient experiences and outcomes.
Currently, facilities in Mazyad and Sweihan already function 24/7 with urgent care options. Furthermore, ten other centres in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain — including Al Hili, Al Aamerah, Al Hayer, Neima, Al Quaa, Al Bateen, Al Zafaranah, Al Bahia, Madinat Mohammed Bin Zayed, and Baniyas — have now transitioned to 24-hour service.
These locations are set to initiate their urgent care offerings by the second quarter of 2026, in a phased approach that aims to enhance geographic reach and accessibility.
Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, pointed out that the expansion of 24-hour services is fundamental in establishing a resilient and proactive healthcare system. She noted that timely access to care is vital for delivering quality healthcare and improving community well-being.
In the same vein, Rashed Al Qubaisi, Group Chief Operating Officer of PureHealth, characterized this initiative as a landmark achievement in advancing patient-centered services and providing top-tier healthcare solutions.
Comprehensive Preventive Care
The expanded primary care centres will continue to host a wide array of services, encompassing chronic disease management, vaccinations, mental health support, health education, and coordination with specialists.
In alignment with contemporary standards for emergency and urgent care facilities, this initiative reinforces DoH’s commitment to adhering to global best practices, ensuring quality, safety, and the long-term viability of healthcare services throughout the emirate.
A Move Towards Improved Community Health
By extending operational hours and integrating urgent care, Abu Dhabi is making significant strides in enhancing healthcare availability, improving patient satisfaction, and fostering a healthier community in the region.
