In an innovative leap, Dubai introduces a state-of-the-art AI parking system as Parkin, the emirate's principal public parking operator, installs numerous intelligent cameras in crucial city zones. This initiative aims to automate the fee collection process, streamline parking oversight, and alleviate traffic congestions.
During the initial rollout, over 500 AI-enabled cameras have been strategically placed in high-traffic sites such as Burj Khalifa, Trade Centre 1, and Al Corniche. These cameras, installed on curbs and poles, continuously monitor parking space usage.
This advanced system employs artificial intelligence to capture images of vehicles and accurately read license plates. It efficiently records the entry and exit of vehicles, assesses the duration of parking, and facilitates payment processing automatically, eliminating the need for drivers to utilize parking meters or send SMS notifications.
Parkin announced that this initiative features the first curb-side camera technology in the region, designed to seamlessly integrate with Dubai's urban aesthetics. In addition to on-street parking, the deployment will include approximately 200 extra cameras in controlled parking facilities across the emirate.
Powered entirely by solar energy, these smart devices echo Dubai’s commitment to enhancing sustainable and eco-friendly urban infrastructure.
The AI system seamlessly integrates with the Parkin app, available for iOS, Android, and Huawei devices. With a user-friendly digital wallet, drivers can make automatic payments through the app, ensuring a hassle-free digital parking experience.
Parkin's CEO, Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, emphasized that this rollout is a pivotal advancement in enhancing Dubai's smart parking infrastructure and improving service delivery across the emirate.
The technology is also poised to minimize congestion by offering real-time updates on parking space availability. Officials anticipate that this will significantly cut down the time drivers take to find parking in densely populated areas.
Furthermore, the automated enforcement component is expected to heighten the precision of parking violation detection, thereby reducing the risk of erroneous fines as charges will correlate directly with actual parking duration.
According to Parkin's CTO, Eng. Talal Al Ajmi, the transition toward a data-driven approach in parking management is set to enhance operational precision and uniformity throughout Dubai.
This expansion aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of harnessing artificial intelligence in public services, bolstering the city’s smart mobility framework and digital infrastructure.
