Dubai Police Issue Warning on Beggars and Illicit Butchers

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Dubai Police have issued a warning to the public regarding interactions with beggars and unlicensed butchers, particularly during festive periods like Eid Al Adha.

Last year, authorities apprehended 50 beggars and itinerant butchers during Eid Al Adha as part of ongoing surveillance and enforcement efforts across the emirate.

Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, the Director of the Criminal Phenomena Department, emphasized that the fight against begging continues with the “Anti-Begging” initiative in collaboration with key partners.

He noted that begging manifests in numerous ways, including in public spaces, markets, and places of worship. Police also flagged concerns regarding online begging and fraudulent donation requests circulating on social media.

According to official sources, certain individuals exploit vulnerable populations, including children and people with disabilities, to illegally solicit funds.

Authorities urged community members to ensure that contributions are made only through officially sanctioned charitable organizations to guarantee that assistance reaches those in need legally.

Dubai Police also cautioned against unlicensed butchers, warning that improper slaughtering practices may pose significant health risks due to inadequate hygiene and unsterilized tools.

Residents can report any sightings of beggars or itinerant butchers by calling 901, utilizing the Police Eye service via the Dubai Police app, or accessing the e-Crime platform for online begging issues.
