Israeli Strikes Claim 10 Lives During Eid in Gaza

Post by : Shakul

Ten Palestinians lost their lives, including five children and an elderly person, during a series of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City, coinciding with the Eid al-Adha festivities. According to officials at Shifa Hospital, over twenty others sustained injuries in the assaults.

Eyewitnesses recounted harrowing scenes of destruction, with flames consuming a section of a residential building. Emergency services and local volunteers hurried to assist those trapped under the rubble and transport the injured to nearby facilities. Images captured in the aftermath showed families in mourning, as festivities were eclipsed by the resurgence of violence.

Notably among the deceased was Hamas militant Imad Isleim, whose funeral attracted numerous attendees in Gaza City. Relatives voiced their grief and highlighted the ongoing suffering inflicted by the persistent conflict on civilians.

The Israeli Defense Forces claimed the strikes were aimed at Hamas operatives in northern Gaza. The operations began on the first day of Eid al-Adha, a pivotal moment on the Islamic calendar, deepening the emotional toll felt by already impacted families.

In related developments, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an extension of military control over Gaza. Addressing a conference in the Jordan Valley, he noted that Israeli forces are currently managing about 60 percent of the territory and plan to bolster their presence as actions against Hamas continue.

This escalation follows the reported death of Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed commander of Hamas’ military wing, the Qassam Brigades. His demise occurred under two weeks after that of his predecessor, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.

Gaza health authorities reported that in the past forty-eight hours, sixteen individuals were killed and thirty-nine others injured across the territory. The toll has been catastrophic, with hundreds reported dead or injured since previous ceasefire efforts began, underlining the ongoing instability and humanitarian crises in the area.

Amidst faltering diplomatic efforts for sustainable peace, the situation in Gaza remains precarious, with civilians disproportionately suffering from the ramifications of the conflict. This recent round of violence highlights the fragile state of existing truce frameworks and raises questions about future developments in the region.
