Engineer Tragically Drowns After Car Falls into Waterlogged Pit in Greater Noida

Greater Noida: A heartbreaking incident occurred over the weekend when 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta lost his life after his vehicle fell into a rain-filled pit in Greater Noida.

Mehta, employed in Gurugram, was en route to Tata Eureka Park in Noida Sector 150 when he lost control of his Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara due to thick fog. His car veered off, leaping a drain and plunging into a 50-feet deep pit filled with water. Authorities indicated that the pit lacked any barricades or warning signs.

In a desperate attempt for help, Mehta managed to get onto the roof of his car and called his father. “Papa, I am stuck, the car has fallen into the drain,” he conveyed during the call.

Emergency response teams, including police, fire services, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rushed to the site. Unfortunately, the thick fog hindered their efforts. Equipment like ropes, cranes, and ladders were deployed but could not reach him in time.

Mehta was stranded on the roof for approximately 90 minutes before the car was completely submerged. His body was later retrieved by boat.

Authorities are currently probing the accident and have issued warnings to the public about unmarked hazards and low visibility during foggy conditions.
