Etihad Rail, in coordination with the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC), has operated a passenger train as part of trial runs on the route linking Al Ghuwaifat station on the Saudi border with Al Faya station in Abu Dhabi.
The trial operation aims to support the continuity of vital services and provide safe and reliable transport alternatives during changing situations. The move is based on continuous risk assessments and is aligned with approved emergency response plans.
The railway link between Al Ghuwaifat and Al Faya is strategically important. It strengthens geographical connectivity between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and supports the smooth movement of people and goods, including access to key ports. The route also allows authorities to activate alternative transport options when required.
The operation forms part of a wider set of proactive and operational measures implemented in coordination with relevant authorities. These measures focus on ensuring strong coordination between entities, enhancing logistical security, and maintaining business continuity under different risk scenarios.
His Excellency Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADCMC, said that preparing and developing transport options is a key part of Abu Dhabi’s overall response system. He explained that all developments are managed under clear governance frameworks and integrated coordination across vital sectors. This ensures quick adaptation and efficient use of resources.
He added that a flexible transport sector is essential for social stability, as it is directly linked to the continuity of essential services. The centre will continue monitoring developments around the clock to strengthen preparedness and maintain public confidence.
Eng Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, said the passenger trial between Al Ghuwaifat and Al Faya highlights the readiness and flexibility of the UAE’s national railway network. He noted that the initiative supports the national transport ecosystem under the guidance of Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail.
He added that Etihad Rail is working closely with government partners to ensure sustainable operations and provide dependable transport services. The goal is to enhance traffic flow, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and support the country’s preparedness.
The trial operation reflects Abu Dhabi’s proactive planning approach. It shows how risk assessments are translated into practical solutions that protect vital sectors, maintain service continuity, and ensure smooth movement during different circumstances.
