The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has revealed the full lineup for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival, scheduled for 10 to 18 January 2026. This event promises nine days of excitement that intertwines Emirati maritime heritage with contemporary marine sports.
Featuring five distinct marine championships, the festival celebrates Abu Dhabi's historical bond with the sea while simultaneously establishing the city as a prominent venue for global marine competitions. By merging traditional races with modern formats, this festival aims to engage a diverse audience of participants, enthusiasts, and professionals from the region and beyond.
One of the key attractions is the traditional dhow sailing races. The Abu Al Abyad Dhow Sailing Race in the 60ft category and the Hudayriyat Dhow Sailing Race in the 22ft category promise to highlight the skill and teamwork inherent in Emirati sailing traditions. These races serve as a testament to the deep-seated maritime culture in the UAE, where sailing is seen as a lifestyle rather than just a competitive sport.
Complementing the traditional events is the Al Alya Traditional Bawaneesh Sailing Race, featuring 12-foot dhows. This race, known for its vibrant competitive spirit and cultural significance, allows sailors to exhibit their skills and deep understanding of sailing techniques in challenging conditions.
Community engagement is another vital aspect of the event. The Abu Dhabi Women’s Fishing Championship, scheduled for 10 January, underscores women's increasing participation in marine sports and aims to encourage broader involvement in fishing and competitive activities.
On the modern front, the festival will culminate with the UAE Formula 4 Powerboat Championship on 17 and 18 January. This high-speed spectacle contrasts sharply with the heritage races, offering thrilling competition and technical prowess that attract a new generation of marine sports enthusiasts.
With its varied program, the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival reaffirms the capital's status as a key center for marine sports, artfully balancing tradition and modernity while spotlighting the UAE's strong maritime heritage.
