Explore Al Shuwaib: Enhancing Tourism and Community Connection in the UAE

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The “Discover Al Shuwaib” event, hosted in the Al Shuwaib area of Al Ain from April 17 to 19, saw significant participation from locals. This initiative was orchestrated by the Emirates Council for Balanced Development in collaboration with the Emirates Foundation.

This initiative aims to invigorate the natural surroundings and community resources, fostering engaging experiences that link individuals to their local environment. It promotes active, healthy, and sustainable living, particularly in rural settings.

In alignment with the vision of UAE leadership, this programme strives to create innovative community initiatives that underscore the unique identity of each region, enhance community participation, support sustainable development, and strengthen national identity linked to natural heritage.

A variety of activities catered to all age groups, including a compass navigation adventure, mountain biking trails, children's educational art workshops, and volunteering options focused on environmental preservation. Additionally, a tree-planting campaign raised awareness about sustainability.

The event also featured elements of the “Proud of the UAE” campaign, fostering a sense of belonging and community involvement.

This initiative highlighted Al Shuwaib as an emerging community tourism destination, showcasing its natural and cultural gems, such as Al Shuwaib Dam and its scenic landscapes.

This event forms part of the council's wider efforts to create impactful programmes that showcase the environmental and tourism potential of villages, transforming them into attractive destinations while enhancing community engagement throughout the UAE.
