Tragic Incident on the Dahab-Nuweiba Road

In a devastating accident, a passenger bus overturned on Wednesday morning on the road between Dahab and Nuweiba in Egypt’s South Sinai, resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals and injuring 28 more, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

The incident happened near the Al-Saada area while the bus was en route to Nuweiba. Swiftly, emergency services were dispatched to the location where medical teams administered first aid and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

Emergency Response Mobilized

Following the accident report, Egypt’s Health Ministry promptly activated its central operations room. A total of 20 ambulances were sent to the crash scene to aid in emergency care and facilitate the transfer of victims to medical facilities.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive care to the injured, ensuring that all necessary medical supplies were made readily available. Ongoing assessments are being conducted by medical personnel.

Involvement of Jordanian Nationals

Among those affected by the tragedy were Jordanian nationals, as announced by Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The embassy in Cairo is actively coordinating with Egyptian officials to monitor the condition of injured Jordanians and manage arrangements for victims.

Local reports indicated that at least 10 Jordanians were among the deceased. The bus was carrying a mix of both Jordanian and Egyptian passengers, leading to fluctuating casualty figures still being reported by relevant authorities.

Investigation Underway

Initial investigations have yet to pinpoint the cause of the crash. Officials have not disclosed whether speeding, mechanical issues, or road conditions played a role in the unfortunate event.

This incident occurred on a route frequently traveled by tourists visiting Egypt’s renowned Red Sea destinations, Dahab and Nuweiba, which are popular for activities like diving and beach recreation.

Concerns About Road Safety in Egypt

The recent tragedy has heightened concerns regarding road safety in Egypt. Reports indicate an increase in road fatalities this year, with 2025 recording 5,829 deaths compared to 5,260 in the previous year.

Just last month, another serious accident in Ismailia governorate resulted in 18 deaths and approximately 30 injuries. These recurring incidents have led to growing apprehension about highway safety, particularly in areas frequented by tourists.

Tourist Route Faces Danger

The Dahab-Nuweiba corridor is key for tourism in South Sinai. This accident underscores the serious risks that travelers face, prompting a significant emergency response from local authorities.

Officials continue to offer medical care to the victims and investigate the underlying causes of the bus overturning. Further updates may adjust casualty figures as identifications and medical evaluations proceed.
