Bengaluru Cricket Match Aftermath Ends in Tragedy

Post by : Meena Hassan

A dispute that flared up after a cricket match in Bengaluru became fatal, leading to the death of a 33-year-old man due to a drunken brawl, according to local authorities.

The altercation involved Prashanth (33) and Roshan Hegde (37), who became embroiled in a heated exchange after taking part in a cricket tournament at a park in Electronics City. As per the police investigation, the two had been enjoying beer in an area behind a mall when a small disagreement ignited their clash.

What started as a dispute over a lighter quickly morphed into violence. The two men reportedly hurled insults and shoved each other, eventually resorting to using beer bottles as weapons. During this altercation, Hegde apparently sustained a cut on his tongue.

Following the fight, Hegde tried to drive away in his Tata Safari SUV while Prashanth pursued him, standing on the vehicle's footrest and continuing the confrontation. The police allege that Hegde then accelerated the SUV with intent to harm.

Shortly thereafter, Hegde purposefully crashed the vehicle into a tree by the roadside and then slammed into a compound wall. The resulting collision inflicted grave head and chest injuries on Prashanth, who perished instantly.

The entire incident was captured by the dashboard camera of the SUV, which played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. Authorities promptly filed a murder charge under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Hegde, who works in IT, was apprehended within an hour of the event. The SUV involved in the incident has been confiscated, and an extensive investigation is currently ongoing.
