Fire Breaks Out at BYD's Shenzhen Parking Facility

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A significant fire erupted within a multi-story parking garage at BYD’s manufacturing site in Shenzhen, prompting a swift emergency response and releasing large quantities of black smoke into the urban landscape.

Incident at Parking Garage

The blaze occurred in the Ma Luan subdistrict of the Pingshan district, where a “three-dimensional” structure was set ablaze. Eye-catching footage shared online depicted flames rapidly advancing through multiple stories, with visible thick smoke from a distance.

Emergency services, including firefighting and police personnel, quickly arrived and worked diligently to control and put out the fire. Officials later confirmed that the situation was managed, with no injuries reported.

Vehicles Unaffected Were Not for Sale

As per official statements, the impacted facility was solely utilized for storing test, experimental, and decommissioned vehicles. BYD clarified that there were no customer vehicles or units intended for production damaged.

The automaker reassured that its primary manufacturing activities at Pingshan continue unhindered, ensuring that production and delivery schedules remain intact.

Investigation Underway for Cause

Preliminary reports from media sources in China indicate that improper external construction activities near the complex may have ignited the fire. Currently, authorities have ruled out any defects in the batteries of mass-produced vehicles.

Nevertheless, a thorough investigation is actively taking place to ascertain the exact cause and evaluate the damage sustained.

Operations Remain Steady

Despite the incident's scale, BYD’s overall operations are stable. The company is in the process of enhancing its infrastructure with the recent launch of numerous flash charging stations across China, further solidifying its position in the global electric vehicle industry.
