Nottingham Forest have officially sacked Sean Dyche as head coach after a disappointing run of results in the Premier League. The club confirmed the decision in a short statement and said no further comments would be made at this time.
In their official statement, Forest said:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach. We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”
Forest are currently just one place above the relegation zone. The team has struggled this season, especially compared to last year’s impressive seventh-place finish.
Dyche’s position had been under pressure for several weeks. A home draw against bottom-placed Wolves on Tuesday proved to be the final setback that led to his dismissal.
He became the third manager to take charge of the club this season. Dyche replaced Ange Postecoglou in October. However, Postecoglou’s time at the club lasted only 39 days after he had replaced Nuno Espírito Santo. Nuno was dismissed just three matches into the 2025–26 season.
With Dyche now gone, Nottingham Forest are set to begin the search for their fourth permanent manager of the campaign — something that has never happened before in Premier League history.
When Dyche joined Forest, the club was sitting in 18th place after managing only one win in eight matches. He lost his first match 2-0 against Bournemouth. However, he then guided the team to four wins and one draw in the next seven games, helping Forest move out of the relegation zone.
That positive run was followed by four consecutive defeats. Although the team later went unbeaten in four matches — including a 2-1 win against West Ham and a strong 0-0 draw against league leaders Arsenal — the club remained close to the relegation places.
With Leeds United and West Ham also picking up points, Forest stayed under pressure in the relegation battle. The club’s management has now decided that a change in leadership is necessary to secure Premier League survival.
Nottingham Forest will soon announce their next managerial appointment as they aim to avoid relegation and stabilize their season.
