Fire Breaks Out in Guryong Village, 47 Evacuated in Gangnam

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Friday, a substantial fire ignited in Guryong Village, a low-income area nestled within the affluent Gangnam district of Seoul, prompting the response of nearly 300 firefighters.

Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported, though authorities evacuated 47 residents as a safety precaution. Approximately 110 individuals reside in the impacted section of the village.

Firefighters have been on-site throughout the day, diligently working to control the flames and prevent further spread to adjacent properties. Investigations into the fire's origin and the damage it has caused are currently underway.

Guryong Village is situated in one of Seoul’s wealthiest areas but houses a low-income demographic living in close quarters. The narrow streets and compact structures present significant challenges for firefighting efforts.

Emergency services remain active at the scene to extinguish any lingering flames and to ensure the safety of the area. Evacuated residents are being provided with temporary accommodations and support until it is safe for them to return home.

This incident underscores the complexities involved in safeguarding vulnerable populations residing in bustling urban environments, regardless of their proximity to affluent neighborhoods.
