Coco Gauff kicked off her Australian Open campaign with a convincing straight-sets win against Kamilla Rakhimova at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday. The third seed secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory to move into the second round.
Despite showing slight vulnerability on her serve, Gauff was broken at 5-2 in the second set. Rakhimova, however, was unable to capitalize, missing two match points while serving in the following game, allowing Gauff to seal her win with a decisive backhand beyond the baseline.
As a former semi-finalist at Melbourne Park and last year's quarter-finalist, the French Open champion Gauff is setting her sights on capturing her third Grand Slam title.
In her next match, Gauff will take on left-handed Olga Danilovic, who secured a victory over Venus Williams on the opening day, as they compete for a place in the third round.
