Abu Dhabi Customs, in collaboration with the Emirates Drug Establishment, has introduced the Golden List of Pharmaceutical Companies aimed at bolstering supply chains while establishing a dynamic regulatory framework that adheres to global best practices.
This initiative seeks to harmonize pharmaceutical safety with efficient trade, facilitating the rapid movement of shipments through the emirate's border ports. It also aligns with the UAE's We the UAE 2031 vision, advancing the nation’s objectives in health innovation and sustainability.
The initial phase spotlights 31 reputable pharmaceutical companies, granting them access to streamlined customs processes, improved compliance mechanisms, and expedited shipment handling. Key features include automatic shipment accreditation and quicker customs clearance within a seamless customs environment.
This launch solidifies Abu Dhabi's status as a pivotal center for pharmaceutical manufacturing in the UAE, contributing to about 27% of the country's overall pharmaceutical output, thereby reinforcing national health security and global competitiveness.
H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, remarked that the Golden List underscores the vital partnerships between government and private sectors, enhancing regulatory efficiency and enabling compliant companies to navigate flexible customs options without jeopardizing safety.
H.E. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the Emirates Drug Establishment, highlighted that the initiative demonstrates robust institutional cohesion and a firm commitment to pharmaceutical safety. She noted that it fosters investment in high-value pharmaceutical sectors, speeds up processes for compliant firms, and strengthens the UAE's stature in the global pharmaceutical arena.
To be included in the Golden List, companies are required to satisfy specific criteria, including:
A proven track record of customs compliance without significant violations
Robust internal control and risk management systems
Preparedness to meet technical requirements set by relevant authorities
Absolute adherence to Emirates Drug Establishment regulations
This initiative is expected to enhance transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness in Abu Dhabi’s pharmaceutical sector, contributing to the UAE’s wider economic and health security objectives.
