Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Itzulia Basque Country kicked off with thrilling dynamics as Felix Großschartner showcased his talents in the stage 1 individual time trial, finishing third for UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

The Austrian rider achieved a time of 17 minutes and 36 seconds over the 13.8km course, trailing stage victor Paul Seixas of Decathlon CMA CGM by just 27 seconds. Großschartner initially held second place before being surpassed by Kévin Vauquelin.

Strong Start Sets Up GC Potential

Renowned for his time trial proficiency, Großschartner demonstrated excellent form from the beginning. He tackled the opening climb with vigor, maintained a steady pace through the middle, and finished powerfully during the technical section.

His performance positions him as a key contender in the ongoing general classification as the race tackles more challenging terrains ahead.

Solid Contributions from UAE Team

UAE Team Emirates-XRG also benefited from strong finishes from teammates. Brandon McNulty took eighth place, finishing 43 seconds behind the stage winner, showcasing a solid time trial performance.

Isaac del Toro, who is the team's hopeful for the GC title, finished 13th. The promising young Mexican rider is anticipated to excel in the upcoming mountainous stages.

Upcoming Challenges Await

With several demanding mountain stages on the horizon, the rivalry at Itzulia Basque Country is set to heat up, focusing on climbing efforts that will significantly influence the overall standings ahead of Saturday’s finale.

Großschartner expressed confidence in his performance, noting impressive power output despite challenging windy conditions—an optimistic sign as the race unfolds.
