Burn Ward at Hamidia Hospital Overheats Due to AC Outages

Post by : Shakul

Alarming concerns have arisen at Bhopal's Hamidia Hospital as reports show that burn patients are undergoing treatment in oppressive heat because of malfunctioning air conditioning in critical care zones. This troubling situation raises serious queries regarding patient safety and the facility's operational integrity, given its status as one of Madhya Pradesh's largest government hospitals.

Admitted patients in the burn ward, some with severe injuries covering large portions of their bodies, are enduring extremely high temperatures. To combat the soaring heat, families have resorted to providing coolers, ice packs, and manual fans, particularly as summer swelters across the region.

The malfunction extends further than just patient wards. Reports indicate that air conditioning units in the Burn Intensive Care Unit and Operating Theatre have been non-functional for several months, resulting in medical procedures conducted under conditions deemed substandard, thus raising concerns over infection management and recovery for critically injured patients.

Experts in medical care underscore that regulating temperature is vital for burn treatment. Patients with extensive skin injuries are at heightened risk for infections due to their weakened natural defenses. Well-regulated environments with filtered air and stable temperatures are crucial for minimizing complications and enhancing survival prospects.

Official documentation shows that hospital management consistently alerted relevant departments about the malfunctioning cooling systems. Notices as far back as 2025 highlighted the urgent requirements for repairs and operational ACs. Nevertheless, the necessary restoration work remains incomplete despite repeated appeals.

As per hospital officials, delays in administration and technical aspects involving various departments have hindered the restoration efforts. Although funds for electrical updates have reportedly been allocated, coordination between the involved agencies has stalled progress.

This troubling scenario has ignited criticism from the families of patients and healthcare advocates, who argue that crucial medical infrastructure should never be allowed to fail within a burn care facility. Authorities are under mounting pressure to expedite the resolution of this matter and to ensure a secure setting for critically ill patients.
