Hat Yai Hospital Enhances Southern Healthcare Services

Post by : Shakul

Thailand's Ministry of Public Health has reported substantial advancements in the revitalization and expansion of Hat Yai Hospital, which faced significant disruptions due to the 2025 floods. Officials have stated that the hospital has swiftly resumed all medical services, exceeding recovery expectations, and is progressing with a vision to establish it as a leading healthcare hub for the southern region.

Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat toured Hat Yai Hospital in Songkhla Province with top health officials to evaluate the restoration efforts and assess emergency preparedness for any future flooding scenarios. The ministry noted that recovery efforts are now about 20 percent ahead of schedule, attributing this to rapid reconstruction initiatives and government backing.

A royal allocation of 100 million baht has been instrumental in restoring vital hospital infrastructure. These funds have facilitated renovations in the emergency and accident services, the fortification of building systems, improvements to backup electrical frameworks, and upgrades to specialized treatment zones such as the bone marrow transplant facility and pediatric oncology units. Completion of these renovations is anticipated by September 2026.

Furthermore, significant infrastructure enhancements are underway to bolster the hospital’s resistance against future floods, with approximately 80 percent of structural restoration already finalized. The Provincial Electricity Authority has installed a proprietary emergency power line and backup energy mechanisms featuring a 1,200 KVA generator to maintain electricity supply across multiple service structures during emergencies.

Additionally, hospital authorities have upgraded water supply and medical support systems. Ten newly constructed water pump facilities and a reverse osmosis system capable of generating 2,000 liters of potable water per hour have been implemented. Enhancements to liquid oxygen storage and the relocation of backup medical gas systems to safer locations have also taken place, alongside modernized communication systems and emergency radio networks to ensure uninterrupted services during crises.

Hat Yai Hospital is concurrently expanding its advanced medical offerings by establishing seven specialized centers of excellence. These centers will focus on cancer care, cardiovascular health, stroke management, neonatology, emergency responses, minimally invasive surgeries, and organ transplantation. The integration of smart medical technologies and internationally recognized automated systems aims to bolster treatment precision and healthcare efficiency.

In alignment with its long-term expansion objective, the government is advancing the “Hat Yai Hospital 2” initiative on a 130-rai property in Ban Phru Subdistrict. This new facility is intended to address the surging healthcare needs in Southern Thailand and will also promote medical research and advanced treatment methodologies, while contributing to the broader health economy objectives in Thailand. Authorities are optimistic that this expansion will position Hat Yai as a premier regional healthcare center in the near future.
