Higham Lane School Temporarily Closed Due to Cyber Attack

Post by : Meena Hassan

Higham Lane School, situated in Nuneaton, has closed temporarily after a cyber attack compromised crucial elements of its IT systems. The school, which accommodates around 1,400 students aged 11 to 18 and is affiliated with the Central England Academy Trust, ceased operations on Monday and is scheduled to remain closed until Wednesday.

An announcement from the academy indicates this closure is a necessary precaution while investigations are conducted. Local authorities along with cyber security experts are collaborating to restore systems safely and efficiently.

The school promptly activated its incident response measures, which involved securing IT networks and engaging independent cyber security specialists to probe the breach. Families have been notified that pertinent authorities have been informed, and the school is fully cooperating with all involved agencies.

In a communication sent out to parents, the school described the decision to close as a "difficult" yet essential step following guidance from external experts. Both staff members and students are advised not to access any school systems, such as Google Classroom and SharePoint, until further notice.

Despite the situation, the school reassured students who have previously used their school login details that there is no urgent cause for alarm; however, access is being limited temporarily to ensure the utmost safety during the ongoing investigation.

Higham Lane School underscored that the safety and privacy of its community is of paramount importance. Families will receive updates as more information becomes available.
