Imran Khan Loses 85% Vision in Right Eye: Lawyer

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly lost 85% of the vision in his right eye, according to his lawyer, who submitted a report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Imran Khan, 73, has been in jail since August 2023 and is currently serving a 14-year sentence in a corruption case. He has repeatedly said that several cases against him were made to keep him out of politics. Pakistan’s military has denied these allegations.

In a report seen by Reuters, Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar told the court that Khan now has only 15% vision remaining in his right eye. The report quoted Khan as saying he had been facing persistent blurred and hazy vision since October 2025, but claimed that jail authorities did not take action.

The Supreme Court had ordered the lawyer’s meeting with Khan and set a February 16 deadline for authorities to allow Khan access to his personal physician for a medical report on his condition.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had earlier said Khan was taken to a hospital this month for a 20-minute eye treatment procedure.

Following the report, Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), demanded immediate and transparent implementation of the court order, full access to specialists of Khan’s choice, and an end to what it called tactics that could risk his health while in custody.

PTI also stated that it faced a crackdown after Khan’s May 2023 arrest, which triggered nationwide protests against the military. The party later emerged as the single largest party in the 2024 elections, but it alleged election rigging reduced its seats and helped other parties form a coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Sharif and his allies have denied the allegations.
