Increased Drone Activity Across J&K Border Sparks Security Response

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Sunday evening, security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir observed troubling drone movements along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) particularly in Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. Reports indicate these drones briefly crossed into Indian airspace from Pakistan before retreating.

In Rajouri, soldiers in the Nowshera sector responded promptly after identifying a drone hovering above Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 pm. Utilizing medium and light machine guns, they attempted to ward off the unidentified aerial vehicle. Shortly afterward, another drone, seen flashing lights, appeared over Khabbar village in Teryath, traveling from Dharmsal in Kalakote toward Bharakh, which led to enhanced monitoring in the vicinity.

In Samba, at around 7:15 pm, a drone was tracked over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector. Similarly, in Poonch, another drone was detected moving from Tain to Topa in the Mankote area at approximately 6:25 pm. In reaction, security teams commenced ground search operations to assess and neutralize any understood threats.

These developments follow the recent recovery of an arms delivery allegedly dropped by a Pakistan-based drone in Paloora village close to the IB in Samba on Friday night. Recovered items included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade. Officials emphasized that these instances highlight ongoing cross-border infiltration efforts utilizing unmanned aerial systems.

Local authorities have urged residents living near border areas to stay alert and report any questionable aerial occurrences. Troops are maintaining heightened vigilance in all forward sectors, closely monitoring drone activities and engaging in counter-surveillance missions to avert security breaches.
