India has vocally denounced the recent missile and drone strike by Iran on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone in the UAE, resulting in injuries to three Indian citizens.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the assault as “unacceptable”, calling for an immediate cessation of attacks on civilian infrastructure and innocent individuals. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India's commitment to engaging in dialogue and diplomacy to foster peace and stability in West Asia.
This strike coincides with escalating tensions between Iran and the USA. According to UAE officials, four cruise missiles were launched towards the nation, with air defense systems managing to intercept three, while the fourth landed in the sea.
In addition to this, a drone strike ignited a fire at the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone, an essential centre for the UAE’s oil exports. Emergency crews responded swiftly to manage the blaze. The three injured Indian nationals have been hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed its coordination with local authorities to ensure adequate medical care and support for the victims.
India has also highlighted the necessity for secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane globally, reiterating its readiness to assist in efforts aimed at peaceful resolutions.
The UAE government condemned the attack vehemently, deeming it a significant threat to its national security, and affirmed that it would reserve the right to retaliate against such threats.
Fujairah is strategically vital as it allows the UAE to export oil via the Gulf of Oman, circumventing the Strait of Hormuz. This latest incident has exacerbated fears of rising instability in the Gulf region, particularly concerning energy infrastructure and maritime routes.
The atmosphere remains fraught with tension, raising concerns over potential further escalation in the area.
