The Indian Consulate General in Dubai has expressed profound sadness regarding the recent passing of an Indian crew member due to a tragic maritime incident.

An official message shared on X (previously Twitter) indicates that the consulate is currently liaising with the ship's owner to gather further information. They have assured that prompt assistance will be provided.

The consulate remarked, “We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate event at sea resulting in the loss of an Indian crew member. Our team is in contact with the ship's owner to ascertain more information. We will prioritize all possible help in this situation. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the family.”

Details about the deceased's identity and the situation surrounding the incident are still pending.

In a related update, the Director of Shipping from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Opesh Kumar Sharma, has confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the vicinity are secure and that no incidents were reported between May 4 and May 6.

He added that the government has successfully facilitated the transit of over 2,999 Indian seafarers from various Gulf locations, including 23 in the past 48 hours.

Sharma emphasized that the Ministry is collaborating closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare of Indian seafarers and the continuation of smooth maritime operations.

He further confirmed that port activities in India are operating normally with no reported congestion.

Authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and are in coordination with relevant organizations to provide necessary support and assistance.
