Investigation Launched Following Tragic IPG Kayaking Incident

Post by : Shakul

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has pledged a full and transparent investigation into the heartbreaking incident that claimed the lives of two trainee teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Perlis Campus during a kayaking event. The tragedy, which took place at Pantai Merdeka, has raised significant concerns regarding the safety protocols in place for outdoor educational activities.

In light of the incident, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has begun a thorough review of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing outdoor events across all institutions. This initiative aims to enhance safety measures and avoid future occurrences. Officials have stressed that every part of the event, including supervision practices and risk assessments, will be rigorously scrutinized.

Fadhlina emphasized that the ministry accepts full responsibility for this tragedy and assured that justice would be pursued for the families of the victims. She confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway with promises of accountability for any breaches of regulations. Personnel involved in organizing the kayaking activity have been temporarily reassigned pending the outcome of the inquiries.

The minister paid her respects at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. This incident has captured national attention, underscoring the critical need for enforcing stricter safety measures in student activities.
