Iran Closes Hormuz Strait Amid Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon

Post by : Shakul

Iran has taken the significant step of closing the vital Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route, in response to a series of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. This escalation follows just a day after a US-brokered ceasefire intended to reduce hostilities between Iran and the United States came into effect.

Reports indicate that Israel executed over 100 airstrikes in quick succession, hitting Hezbollah-associated areas in Lebanon. These military actions resulted in numerous casualties and extensive damage, prompting Iran to react strongly and heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the ceasefire with Iran but explicitly stated that it wouldn't apply to operations in Lebanon. U.S. President Donald Trump also voiced his support for Israel’s strikes, noting that Hezbollah was not part of the ceasefire negotiations.

The United States has called for Iran to swiftly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that any disruption to this essential global oil passage is intolerable. Analysts caution that continuing tensions might adversely affect global energy supplies and further fuel instability in the Middle East.
